Newsletter Update                    March, 2016

Welcome to the first edition of The Hammered Bead Newsletter. I'm excited about sharing my art jewelry with you and some of the processes I use to achieve the different textures in my jewelry as well as what inspires me to create my pieces.  By the way, you are receiving this email because you signed up at one of my craft shows. Wouldn't want you to think this is spam.

The organic forms of nature inspire much of the work I do. Copper, brass, bronze, sterling silver and semi-precious stones, as well as the clay forms of these materials, combined in unusual ways, forms the basis of much of my work. The soft organic shapes of nature, against man made patterns and materials create pieces that capture the contrast and beauty of the world.

I like the amorphous shapes one finds in nature and often include twigs and pods in my work, or represent those
shapes in metal.

These blue-green beads, freshwater pearls and Bali beads have been cocooned in a torched, copper mesh and wrapped with sterling silver wire. The beads on the necklace portion include smooth green and blue jasper, quartz, amethysts, aquamarine, glass beads and freshwater pearls.
The next piece I think is really cool and is definitely a one-of-a-kind. I painted layer upon layer of silver metal clay paste on a real pod I found on one of my walks. It was then fired in the kiln, cleaned up and paired with several sterling silver "dangles" and freshwater pearls. Sorry, it has sold already.

I recently returned from a family reunion in New Orleans. The weather was beautiful and the sights were awesome. I once lived there and so it wasn't my first time there. Nonetheless, I  love the different colored houses and the old world look of the city. Here is a photo of a rental house down the street from where we stayed.

One more New Orleans photo and then I'm done. A lovely door in the gallery district

I best get back to making more jewelry since I have several spring arts and craft shows to prepare for. I hope you will subscribe to my newsletter. I plan to get one out once a month. You will find a schedule under Events of where I'll be during the next few months.  Hope to see you at one of them.
